There are many ways to lose weight and some are better than others but one thing that is always true when a diet promises to help you lose weight quickly it usually not a very healthy way to lose weight. Some diets give you meal plans that exclude vital nutrients like healthy carbohydrates which your body uses to get vitamins and fiber. Excluding vegetables, fruits and 100% whole grains will leave you without the vital nutrients and fiber these foods provide. The brain needs carbohydrates and your body needs fiber to help you feel full longer and to aid in the elimination process. When diets tell you to eliminate healthy carbohydrates, lean protein or healthy fats they are eliminating essential nutrients from you diet.
Another type of diet that helps you lose weight quickly is one that restricts your calories to a dangerous level. Some diets promote a diet of less than 1,000 calories a day which is not enough calories for your body to keep running at an optimal level. A calorie is a measurement of energy and the body uses calories to run every function in your body. Without a sufficient amount of calories your body will start to slow down your metabolism to conserve energy. When your metabolism slows down you will burn fewer calories and start storing fat. The body thinks it is starving and will conserve energy and store fat to keep your vital organs running. This is not what you want to do to lose weight.
The best way to lose weight is to eat meals that are full of fresh fruits and vegetables and lean protein and 100% whole grains and healthy vegetables such as squash and yams. Divide your plate into one half for your nonstarchy vegetables, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and the other side divide into one quarter for your startch vegetables like yams or squash or your grains such as brown rice and quinoa. The last quarter is for your lean protein like salmon, chicken or turkey breast. This will give you all the nutrients and fiber your body needs to get you through your day and help you lose weight the healthy way.
