HONESTY

There are many challenges in life that are unexpected and challenges that are consequences of our actions. A diagnosis of an illness may be unexpected, and we must decide how to deal with it. People who are diagnosed with heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes can decide to ignore the diagnosis and continue doing what they have been doing for years or they can be honest with themselves about what may have led to their reality. Many times health issues can be traced back to eating habits.   By being honest with the doctor and yourself it is possible to regain your health.

One of the first things you can do is eliminate things from your diet such as fast foods, fried foods, processed foods and junk foods such as cakes, cookies and pastries along with sugary drinks have a lot of artificial ingredients and contain a high amount of sugar and saturated fat. One of the best ways to understand how detrimental these foods are to your health is to read the FDA Food Labeling nutritional information which will tell you what is in the product.

Many manufacturers have found ways to hide various types of sugar in the product by not calling it sugar. If you do not know all the different types of sugar buy my book, “Healthy Meals in Minutes” where I list the different names that are used for sugar. This hidden sugar significantly changes the grams per serving. The product can also be called sugar-free, zero sugar or sugarless if it has less than 0.5 grams of sugar per serving. Fat is another place where words are misleading on the label. Various types of fats are in products including trans fats.  If the product contains 0.5 grams of trans fats per serving, or any other type of fat, the manufacturer can list the product as “non-fat”.

Knowing what is in the foods that you are eating and how many calories, fat and sugar are in the product along with the ingredients will help you make an honest decision about what you should avoid putting in your body and how to keep yourself healthy for life. Whole foods such as fruits, vegetables and 100% whole grains and proteins in the form or beans, legumes, eggs, lean chicken and turkey and fermented tofu are always great food choices.

Love and best wishes,

Tracy
