On November first the holiday season began with colorful signs, displays, trees and holiday treats. This is the season most anticipated by many because it is a happy time of year. Traditionally people are happier, friendlier and get together more often than any other time of year. This also means that the holiday goodies are coming your way.
Most people put on between five to ten pounds over the holidays season because they feel helpless when someone puts a piece of pumpkin pie with whip cream under their nose or a large mocha latte with whipped cream. They usually give in to the temptations that surround them over the holidays. Having just one treat during this eating frenzy that starts with Halloween candy, won’t increase your waistline. What will pack on the pounds is indulging from Halloween through New Year’s Day.
The most common New Year’s Resolution is to lose the weight gained over the holidays or to lose the weight that has increased over the years. The simple fact is if you have been eating a healthy diet and getting daily exercise you will not have to make this resolution. If you eat a piece of pumpkin pie with no whip cream on Thanksgiving and again on Christmas, or whatever holiday and treat you enjoy, it will not blow your entire year of eating healthy and exercising.
This is a great time to start eating healthy meals and to start an exercise program so you will not have the guilt or the weight gain over the holidays. Have your one day or your one treat without feeling guilty because you have been following the meal plan, I have written about in my book “Healthy Meals in Minutes.” Save your treat day for the holidays so you don’t make it a weekly or daily habit. Enjoy all the great foods I talk about in my book that will keep you looking and feeling great.
Enjoy the holiday season and take great care of yourself every day of the year.
Love and best wishes,
Tracy
