This federal holiday is a day to give thanks to all the veterans who served in the military to protect our country. Instead of taking the holiday off without giving much thought to its meaning, try to find veterans in your family, friends, and community and thank them for their service. This day was first called Armistice Day to celebrate the end of World War I on 11 November 1918. Since that day we continue to celebrate and honor all those U.S. military veterans who have served and continue to serve this great nation of ours.
My husband was in the U.S. Army when I met him. After 9/11 he was called to go back to command and fly with a helicopter unit at Fort Hood in Texas to train to go to war in Afghanistan. Being the commander’s wife and the leader of the Family Readiness Group, I learned of the many sacrifices and uncertainties the soldiers and families had to endure in times of war. For me this meant leaving California and moving to Texas and stepping up to a role supporting the troops and their families during deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and other countries.
We salute and appreciate all the veterans service and sacrifice to support our nation and the freedom we all enjoy. Thank you for keeping our country safe.
Love and best wishes,
Tracy Dwyer
