The holiday season is upon us and Thanksgiving is just a few days away. Surviving the Holidays is one of the chapters in my book and something I address often. By following some simple rules, you can get through the holidays without depriving yourself of foods you like eating or gaining unwanted weight.
Divide your plate into half with one side in quarters. Salad and vegetables go on the half of the plate in large portions. One quarter is for yams, potatoes, and beans. The last quarter is for turkey or whatever protein you are eating. Avoid gravy which is generally fat and flour. Pumpkin pie is okay if you have one small piece and without whipped cream.
Eating healthy all year long gives you some wiggle room to eat a bit more but don’t make it a habit or continue overeating nonstop through the holidays until New Year’s Eve. After all, the most common New Year’s resolution is to lose weight. Don’t fall into that trap thinking you can resolve bad habits by attempting to rectify them with a short-term solution. Keeping healthy is an important journey that needs to be addressed all year long.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Love,
Tracy
