EXERCISE TIME

Many people want to exercise but say they do not have time in their day to devote to exercise.  Only about half of Americans exercise three times a week for 30 minutes at a time and the percentage of people exercising seems to be going down.  This year with the COVID-19 VIRUS many people have been unable to exercise at their gym due to shutdowns and many outdoor and class exercise programs have been canceled due to fear of spreading the virus.

Before the COVID-19 VIRUS entered the United States one in three Americans are obese including children.  Diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer are on the rise.  Many of these problems are directly related to inactivity and overeating.  Many illnesses can be prevented and eliminated by eating a healthy diet and getting daily exercise.  The Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health and Human Services recommend at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day to reduce the risk of chronic diseases in adulthood.  I want to encourage adults to exercise for at least one hour a day and children too.  The time and amount may vary depending on what type of activity you are doing but strive for one hour of energizing exercise at a fast pace and thirty minutes of strength building exercise.  You can determine what type of exercise you want to do and where you want to do it.  You can even break the time up into two forty five minute sessions or one hour in the morning and thirty minutes in the afternoon depending on your schedule.

You have control over your what you do with your time each day, even during these challenging times. Take an hour each day for yourself and exercise for a better life.
