I am frequently asked what type of exercise is best for weight loss and getting into shape quick. The best answer is whatever exercise you can do day after day. Finding something you enjoy is a good way to approach exercise. There may be some type of exercise that you try and get results, but you are unable to stick with it. Move on and try something else until you find the right fit.
One type of exercise is cardiovascular which condition the heart and lungs, brings oxygenated blood to your muscles and reduces the risk of developing heart disease. It also burns a lot of calories, reduces weight, lowers cholesterol, and improves overall health. Examples are running, brisk walking, biking, or using elliptical trainer, treadmill, or stationary bike.
Strength training such as weightlifting increases your strength, builds muscle, reduces body fat, improves bone health, and decreases risk of injury. There are many ways to strengthen your body which can be done using body weight, dumbbells, weight machines and endurance exercises.
For best overall health and lasting weight loss both cardiovascular exercises and strength training are a winning combination. Do a variety of exercises or change up your routine every six weeks to keep your body strong and your mind sharp. Daily exercise is a fun way to stay in shape while having fun.
