HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY

Originally May 30 was chosen as the official day to celebrate Memorial Day, but in 1971 congress declared Memorial Day a National holiday and set it on the last Monday in May.  The official birth of Memorial Day is thought to be in Waterloo, New York but there is some debate.  In 1966 former President Lyndon Johnson declared Waterloo, New York as the “official” place of the holiday per the Veterans Administration.  The first large observation of Memorial Day was at Arlington Cemetery in Washing D. C. in 1868 with a crowd of 5,000 people.

The National Moment of Remembrance of Memorial Day takes place on Monday at 3:00 PM with a moment of silence.  Take time to remember those who have died serving our country so we may live in a free society and enjoy all that comes with being a democratic republic.  Freedom is not free and remembering those who have paid the ultimate price providing and defending this right with a moment in our busy lives is well served.  We will remember them.

Love and best wishes,

Tracy
