HAPPY LABOR DAY

Labor Day is observed the first Monday in September to celebrate the hard work and labor that went into developing the United States and Canada.  This is also a day which has come to represent the last day holiday of summer.

Many people will celebrate Labor Day by going on a family vacations, getting together with friends for picnics, trips to the beach or backyard barbeques.  This is a great time to bring a great tasting main dish or side dish for your friends and family to enjoy.  There are many healthy options which are in my book “Healthy Meals in Minutes”

A few great tips for healthy dishes are skinless chicken breast baked or barbequed, coleslaw with balsamic or red wine vinegar, light olive oil mayonnaise (use sparingly) and salad with a variety of vegetables.  Use colorful vegetables red and green peppers, beets, artichoke hearts, hearts of palm, broccoli slaw, garbanzo beans and kidney beans.  This protein and vegetable salad has great flavor without salad dressing.  Balsamic vinegar can be added individually for those who want a little kick to their salad.

Making healthy food choices is easy when you focus on nutrient dense foods like vegetables and fruits, 100% whole grains and lean proteins.  Make everything without butter, oil, or sauces which gives you a healthy low calorie, low sugar and low carbohydrate meal.

As we honor the hard-working people of our country, also pray for those who continue serving in the military as well as those who are in harm’s way.

Love and best wishes,

Tracy Dwyer
