There are so many ways you can stay in shape but one of the best is to run. Running is a great way to improve circulation, burn calories, increase endurance, build lean muscle, and improve your mood. While some forms of exercise put your body in an awkward position, running is something that we were created to do.
In early times people did not have the modern conveniences that we enjoy today. People had to walk where they needed to go, and many times had to run. Picture a situation where you are out gathering firewood to keep warm and to cook food. If you were confronted by a bear or mountain lion or something that could cause you harm. This is where the fight or flight instinct kicks in and you either stay and fight or you run for your life. Running is truly a motion the body was created to preform
Throughout history people have continued to run for various reasons, some still being to preserve life, but other types of running are done for pleasure or exercise. Running is a great way to lose weight quickly, lower cholesterol, prevent heart disease and improve overall health. It is also a great way to prevent diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and cancer.
Running and other forms of exercise releases chemicals in the body called endorphins and serotonin that improve mood. Running can improve your ability to learn and retain information and improve your mental health. Vigorous exercise has such a profound effect on the body it reduces stress and boosts your mood. The endorphins and serotonin give you such a mental boost they are called a “runners high”. Exercise also boosts your immune system. The best thing about running is that it can be done anywhere and at any age. It is never too early or too late to begin a running program.
Grab your running shoes and some water and hit the road or the treadmill.
Love and best wishes,
