Today is a great day to spend time with family and friends and enjoy the festivities of the holiday. This is a great time to start new traditions and enjoy the old traditions of Thanksgiving; turkey, baked beans, sweet potatoes, mixed vegetables, and pumpkin pie are some of my favorites. This is a time when people tend to overeat but that does not need to interrupt your healthy eating habits. You just need to make a few adjustments to your old favorites.
In my book “Healthy Meals in Minutes” I devote a whole chapter to help you get through this time. “How to Survive the Holidays” is the name of the chapter and I give you all the tools you need to get through the next few months without gaining any weight.
When preparing meals many people add sugar, butter, gravy, salt, and whipped cream without thinking that all of these ingredients add a lot of calories and fat to their meals and keep them packing on the pounds. This doubles the calories and fat they are adding to their meals. Preparing meals without the extra fat and sugar will reduce the unnecessary calories and keep you from packing on the pounds.
During Thanksgiving Day do a workout or take a walk, run, or bicycle ride with your family. Get some exercise before or after your meal so you will burn some of those extra calories you consumed. Have a great time, enjoy your Thanksgiving and be thankful for the time you spend with your family and friends.
Love and best wishes,
Tracy
