Many people do not drink enough water on a daily basis which can lead to dehydration, overeating, fatigue, headaches, weakened immunity and dry skin to name a few. Water makes up 60% of the body and replenishing is extremely important. Water flushes out toxins and helps the body produce saliva, aids in the elimination process, and provides fluid and nutrients to the cells in the body. When you sweat, those fluids must be replaced avoid dehydration. Thirst can be mistaken for hunger which can lead to weight gain. Drinking water helps you feel full and replaces the fluids the body needs.
Drinking eight cups of water is a great place to start but if you exercise, sweat, or become ill you will need to increase the amount of water you are drinking. Water is the best choice for your beverage because it is exactly what the body needs to stay healthy. Other liquids such as broth, tea and fruits provide liquid for the body, but water is always a must.
There are many liquids that people consume during the day such as fancy coffee drinks that are loaded with sugar and calories. Many energy drinks are loaded with sugar, caffeine and artificial ingredients that are not good for the body and can be dehydrating. Sugary drinks provide a lot of fat and calories that lead to weight gain. Alcohol is another beverage that dehydrates your body. If you ever had a hang over from drinking too much alcohol you have experienced the extreme pain of dehydration.
The bottom line is always keep a bottle of water with you so you can continue to drinking water all day long. When you are at the gym drink an entire bottle while you are working out and more when you are done. Get in the habit of drinking water often and don’t wait until you feel thirsty because that means you are already dehydrated. When it comes to water, drink as much as possible.
