This year it is more important than ever to enjoy and have a great Thanksgiving. This has been a very important day in our country and every year families come together to celebrate. Many Governors have made restrictions for Thanksgiving this year such as don’t travel to see your family, limit the amount of people at your house and some even threatening to fine people who have more gathered than allowed by the Governors. In my state we are allowed to make our best decisions about how we spend the holiday and who we spend it with. Following guidelines of social distancing and masking are encouraged when with anyone outside of the immediate family or when in public establishments.
As we come together for our Thanksgiving this year it may be different for previous years but we will all be thankful to the COVID Task Force and Operation Warp Speed that led to several COVID-19 Vaccines that are ready for FDA approval and more are on the way. I encourage everyone to help eliminate this horrible virus by getting vaccinated and following safety guidelines until vaccines are available for everyone.
During the holidays and during this year of COVID-19 shut downs and months of safer at home restrictions everyone has felt a great deal of stress and anxiety from not being able to go to school, work, the gym and other places. This has led to weight gain, anger and depression which needs to be controlled. I suggest daily exercise in the form of running, brisk walking, weight lifting or using some type of exercise program. Exercise produces endorphins which make you feel great and also burns calories which help you lose and maintain a healthy weight.
Start your meal with salad, vegetables and the healthy foods which include turkey breast and potatoes. I like to use Japanese yams instead of regular potatoes because they are naturally sweet and delicious. By eating the foods that are healthy first you are less likely to “save room for dessert” and go overboard on the sweets. If you follow my Healthy Eating Plan having a small piece of pie after a healthy meal will not undo all the good you have been doing all year long.
Have a healthy and a very Happy Thanksgiving,
Love and best wishes,
Tracy Dwyer
